About

Patricia Lamas is an illustrator and designer with a keen interest in art history and letterforms.

An avid self-led student of traditional craft, including calligraphy and sign painting, she enjoys using her varied skillset in unconventional ways. Working as a professional cake decorator was what unexpectedly lit her enthusiasm for letters in 2014. She wanted the writing on her cakes to look as polished as the rest of her decoration, so she ordered a copy of Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy by Eleanor Winters and began her calligraphic practice in icing rather than pen.

This foray into the world of letters led from one thing to another, and she was soon creating signage all over the bakery after a weeklong workshop with master sign painter Mike Meyer. Though she doesn’t currently have the space to pursue sign painting on a large scale, she seeks every opportunity to incorporate her lettering expertise into her design and illustration work.

Patricia grew up in Port Townsend, WA, and currently lives in Minneapolis, MN. She loves traveling, old house restoration, and being outside.
